Located in the beautiful waters of Coron, the Lusong Gunboat is one of the most beginner-friendly and visually rewarding wreck sites in Coron Bay. Unlike the deeper technical wrecks Coron is famous for, Lusong Gunboat is shallow, calm, and incredibly accessible, making it ideal for freedivers, snorkelers, underwater photographers, and relaxed fun dives. The wreck itself is a World War II Japanese gunboat resting on its side near Lusong Island, now completely transformed into an artificial reef covered in hard corals, soft corals, sponges, and marine life. During low tide, parts of the stern can even break the surface. Marine Life: Expect schools of reef fish, lionfish, nudibranchs, feather stars, shrimps, wrasses, snappers, parrotfish, and occasional cuttlefish hiding within the wreck structure. Macro lovers especially enjoy this site because of the amount of life concentrated in a shallow area. Lusong Gunboat is often described as one of Coron’s most photogenic shallow wrecks. Peaceful, colorful, and easy to explore without needing extreme depth. Perfect for freedivers who enjoy combining history, marine life, and wreck exploration in one dive. PS: Buoyancy control and fin awareness are important to avoid damaging corals growing directly on the structure. Diving into tight sections is not advised without proper training and safety support.
